Subhabrata is a Reciter of Bengali poems, a voice actor, Anchor and trainer of the voice art form.
He is the torch bearer of a very prestigious gharana of recitation of Bengali poems which starts from Chinmoyjiban Ghosh, Kazi Sabyasachi and Prodip Ghosh. He started learning recitation from his father, Late Sisir Chandra Ray Chaudhuri, who was an educationist. During the school days Subhabrata came in close contact with Late Kedar Bhaduri, who was a well-known exponent of Bengali poetry on both sides of the border. This helped Ray Chaudhuri to develop his sense of appreciation for poetry in general.
He then started taking formal lessons in recitation from the famous Recitation Artist and teacher, Sri Prodip Ghosh. Intensive training under Sri Prodip Ghosh has matured him. He learned from the master how to delve into the core of a poem and understand its full meaning. While reciting a poem, one must have a definite aim; all poems are not suitable for all occasions. So, one must be very selective. The recitation artist’s success very often depends on this sense of selection. Sri Prodip Ghosh had come into contact with many poets, actors, musicians, recitation artists and painters like Kazi Sabyasachi, Bishnu Dey and others and he did not hesitate to share his experiences with his favorite pupil. Subhabrata, then, rich with the knowledge of his master, was ready to take the stage as a professional.
Subhabrata feels that the underlying idea of a poem is of primary importance, so, while presenting, one can never deviate from what the poet wants to articulate. His elegant and appealing presentation is based on a superb blend of lyrics and rhythm. Poetry is something that Subhabrata cherishes very dearly and his aim is to present them to the audience so that they may touch their hearts. Subhabrata is in constant touch with poets of all ages. He is loved by senior poets and also accepted as friends by the new generation.
He has achieved great success (Grade A+) in the voice training and speech production course conducted by Jadavpur University, approved by University Grants Commission. During this time, he came in close contact with the well-known actor and audio drama artist, Sri Jagannath Basu and learned the intricacies of voice control and dramatic dialogues.
Since 2012, Subhabrata has been publishing a biennial magazine named ‘Kathabritti’ which is now “Kathabritti News”. It deals mostly with recitation and audio drama.
